The FOD Index is a measure of distresses that generate loose pieces of pavement with the potential to damage aircraft. Similar to PCI, it is a numerical index between 0 and 100, with 100 being the best possible condition. It is calculated using the PCI procedures defined in ASTM D5340 using a subset of the PCI distresses:
•Alligator Cracking
•Block Cracking
•Jet Blast
•Joint Reflection Cracking
•Longitudinal/Transverse Cracking
•Oil Spillage
•Patching
•Raveling
•Shoving
•Slippage Cracking
•Weathering
•Blow-up
•Corner Break
•Linear Cracking
•Durability Cracking
•Joint Seal Damage
•Small Patch
•Large Patch/Utility Cut
•Popouts
•Pumping
•Scaling
•Shattered Slab
•Joint Spalling
•Corner Spalling
•ASR
