The FOD Index is a measure of distresses that generate loose pieces of pavement with the potential to damage aircraft. Similar to PCI, it is a numerical index between 0 and 100, with 100 being the best possible condition. It is calculated using the PCI procedures defined in ASTM D5340 using a subset of the PCI distresses:
• Alligator Cracking
• Block Cracking
• Jet Blast
• Joint Reflection Cracking
• Longitudinal/Transverse Cracking
• Oil Spillage
• Patching
• Raveling
• Shoving
• Slippage Cracking
• Weathering
• Blow-up
• Corner Break
• Linear Cracking
• Durability Cracking
• Joint Seal Damage
• Small Patch
• Large Patch/Utility Cut
• Popouts
• Pumping
• Scaling
• Shattered Slab
• Joint Spalling
• Corner Spalling
• ASR
